Permit Renewal

The current Edwards Aquifer Recovery Implementation Program Incidental Take Permit (ITP) expires March 31, 2028. The Edwards Aquifer Authority Board approved a contract in April 2022 to perform technical services to plan for a permit renewal. The permit renewal of the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan is a four phase process. To kick off the process, Listen and Learn sessions were held throughout the communities we serve to gain and gather input.

The ITP Renewal Process is detailed below. The website will be updated with materials as they become available. If you would like to receive process updates, please subscribe to our mailing list by emailing EAHCP@edwardsaquifer.org.

ITP Renewal Process

PREAHCP Memorandum

Technical memorandum developed by ICF with input from EAHCP staff, EAHCP Committee members, and USFWS. The memorandums identify proposed changes to the EAHCP, facilitate early decisions on fundamental elements of the plan, and provide context to help educate readers on the decision-making process.

Listen and Learn Workshops

Four Listen and Learn workshops were conducted as the first phase of the permit renewal process for the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan. Workshops were conducted to receive input and data sources from members of the community and other interested parties about important topics to the permit renewal process, including the approach to the permit renewal, biological goals and objectives, climate change and system vulnerability, and conservation measures.

Thank you to everyone that attended and provided comments during this process. The final Listen and Learn Workshop Report is available for download here.

This is where it all starts

Edwards Aquifer

The Edwards Aquifer provides water for humans and animals in Central Texas. Today, more than 2 million Texans depend on the waters of the Aquifer to sustain their lives and support their livelihoods. The waters of the Aquifer have created vast formations of caves and underground ecosystems and rise from the ground as springs that form rivers. These ecosystems support the threatened and endangered species – creatures found no where else – the EAHCP protects.
